Zugdidi Museum was founded in 1921, based on archives and objects protected in the palaces of the former rulers of Samegrelo. Today, the museum is officially called the “Historical-Architectural Museum of Dadiani Palaces.”
 
Palace of Samegrelo Queen Ekaterine Chavchavadze – Dadiani was built in 1873-1878 by architect Edwig Rice, and Palace of Nico Dadiani was built in the 80s of the XIX century by the Russian architect Leonid Vasiliev. Court church of holy Virgin was built in 20-ies of the XIX century, during the reign of Nina Dadiani. David Dadiani entrusted his wife the creation of the Botanical Garden. Ekaterine ordered the plants from the Palace of Versailles and Milan, to plan the garden, she invited well-known experts from Italy at the end of the XIX century. To date, only a portion of this wonderful park is retained. 
 
The museum was founded in 1921. It is one of the oldest museums in Georgia. Today, in the museum store more than 52 thousand unique samples of the national cultural heritage. In Zugdidi historical-architectural museum houses exhibits of world importance and religious shrines. Particularly noteworthy is the Shroud of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is carried every year on July 15, when celebrating “Vlakernoba”. Among the rare exhibits stands a bronze mask of Napoleon I (1769-1821), made by professor of anatomy Francesco Antommarchi (1780-1838) in Paris in 1833. Also Napoleon’s personal items, including 6000 - volume library, a collection of paintings and drawings, engravings, etc. These items were brought to Zugdidi by Prince Achille Murat (1847-1895), spouse of Salome - David Dadiani’s daughter. Murat was the grandson of Napoleon Bonaparte’s sister, adjutant of Napoleon III.
