Protected zone Kintrishi was established in 1959 for the protection of flora and fauna of Colchian type Tertiary period. The area is situated in the picturesque valley Kintrishi, between the village Tshemvany and the Tskhino Mountain.

Protected zone Kintrishi was established in 1959 for the protection of flora and fauna of Colchian type Tertiary period. The area is situated in the picturesque valley Kintrishi, between the village Tshemvany and the Tskhino Mountain. The lower boundary of the buffer zone Kintrishi held at 250-300 meters above sea level and is bordered by the upper alpine pasture (2,000 m). The highest peak is the mountain Sarbiela (2471m). Space of the protected area is 13,839 hectares, from which Reserve covers 10,703 hectares and protected landscape 3,190 hectares. All terrain of protected area Kintrishi consists of deep gorges. The main artery of the waters in Reserve is river Kintrishi. In the high mountains small lakes are located - Tbiskeli, Didvake and Sidzerdzali, with an area of 1.5 hectares above. Kintrishi Protected area flora is characterized by an abundance of Adjarian endemnic species-rich evergreen undergrowth, ferns and vines. Dendroflora of Reserve calculates 102 species. On the territory of Reserve Khino male monastic complex of John the Baptist and Tshemvany convent of St. George are located.
