Tsaishi is a Mingrelian village, known for its hot mineral springs. According to ancient historical information, this place is referred to as the IX century "Sais" or "Siseni."
Between the XIII-XIV centuries, on the ruins of the old church was built the church of the Holy Virgin. The church complex consists of domed churches, bell towers and chambers. In 1614, after a massive earthquake two thirds of the church was destroyed so that only its eastern side remains.
In 1616-1619, the ruined cathedral and bell tower were restored by the Catholicos of West Georgia Bishop Tsaishi-Jumati Malachi II Gurieli. Since then the church has not undergone significant changes.
During the restoration the church was completely painted inside and a large part of the frescoes have been saved. An altar is erected in front of the marble columns that were brought by Vamekh Dadiani from Abkhazia in the XIV century, after a victorious campaign. On the north wall of the bell tower, a bas-relief depicts the builders of the church.
The village is close to the architectual complex "Dzheguta", which includes the Church of St. George, built in 1615, a cave of the late middle Ages and dwellings.
