Sataplia State Reserve

Sataplia State Reserve was founded in 1935. The area is 354 hectares. The Reserve is comprehensive and includes a number of geological, paleontological, speleological, zoological and botanical monuments. The terrain is mountainous. 95% of the territory is covered with ancient Colchis type forests. Mammals found here include jackal, fox, marten, badger and squirrel.
In the geological past, there was a seashore in which  were found about 200 tracks of predatory and herbivorous dinosaurs, which are recorded in the limestone. At the reserve the bio-speleological museum is opened. The total length of the cave "Sataplia 1" exceeds 900 meters. In the cave there are many stalactites and stalagmites. Nearby is the cave - "Sataplia 2", which is rich in miniature stalactites, and the cave “Sataplia 3." The caves were discovered in 1925 by Petre Chabukiani when he searched for the settlements of prehistoric man.
